You need to buy a four wire pigtail for you older dryer. Then when you hook up inside the dryer, you will find a jumper wire connected from the metal frame of the older dryer to the center lug of the dryer junction where the pigtail connects. Remove this jumper wire between the center lug and the metal frame of the dryer and throw it away. Then connect the new pigtail the same way the old one was connected except you will find a fourth wire that is green. Connect that green wire where the jumper was connected to the metal frame of the dryer. That green wire takes the place of the jumper between that metal frame and the center neutral connetion where the dryer pigtail was connected. There is to be no connection between that neutral center tap and the metal frame when you have a four wire pigtail like a new dryer has.

Hope this helps
