I'm trying to wire 4 porch lights (same porch), with a switch
inside and a motion sensor at the other end of the porch
(outside). I want, either, to operate the lights, but neither to
be dependant on the other for operation. Can I run the hot wire
all the way out to the motion sensor, and then run two wires
back? One to complete the circuit with the inside switch, and
one to complete the circuit with the motion sensor, tying both
wires together to the return wire from the fixture. Will this
work?

Hi Chuck,
most detectors have a black, red, white wire. the white being the
nuetral, the black being the 120v feed, the red being the wire
that activates the lights after the 'motion function. You could
use a single pole switch to close the black 'feed' to the red
here, thereby bypassing the detector and activating said lights.
Know that there is also the possibility of installing a high end
motion head off a fed single pole switch that will allow you to
control the motion head via the switch. In other words, you can
have the lights stay on constantly by working the switch up and
down a few times, or have them completely off.
"Stealth" & "Stienel" are two such models, i have a stienel on my
home for show & tell, they come with a nice warranty too.
