:what would you feed 100' of track ( track lighting ) with?

Depends on what the track lighting is rated in amps and load
applied on the track lighting.

Knowing you to be a highly qualified advisor on other forums, and
hoping you will help out here in your advise also, WHAT WOULD YOU
FEED 100' OF TRACK LIGHTING WITH?

Is that covering thy you know what or not?

I feel that the load is not a fixed entity, and could be
indiscriminatly changed by anyone.  100' could be fed by a piece
of 14-2 and be compliant to 410-101(b) because of the # of heads
instaled on that day.
However, 220-12(b) would have us, as a load calc, figure 150va
for every 2'.
Other codes may apply that i am missing, but these two side by
side appear to me to be somewhat conflicting.

Wirenuts, sorry, I thought you were setting me up for some punch
line. So much for my ability to think.

In my opinion article 220 is saying that no track lighting may be
calculated at less than 200 va per foot. Most light duty track
lightings come in 4' sections this Article 220 would require a
minimum of 400 va. The Code allows no smaller than 15 amps per
branch circuit. If the track is 10' long then the rating would
require a 20 amp branch circuit because of the Article 220
requirement. Any other smaller size light duty track would be
required to have at least a 15 amp rating.

Now 410-101-B says that you may not exceed 14' of track on a
branch circuit because you would then be overrating the track as
per the 200 va requirement of Article 220.

Again we have more problems. If this track is rated more than 20
amps then Article 410-103 requires that track to be with a heavy
duty rating designed for more than 20 amps. If this track is
rated for more than 20 amps the Article 410-103 also requires
individual branch circuit overcurrent devices protecting each
fitting.

Does that help solve the conflict your were seeing?

yes it does Warren, i seem to have the problem of focusing on
certain codes without regard to other applicable ones, a bad
habit of mine....thanx!
